On Friday, October 27, Abria held their annual celebration banquet at the Downtown Minneapolis Hilton. This year’s banquet set records in attendance and donations with over 750 guests raising over $450,000; all of which will go directly to support Abria and the life-affirming work they provide.
Each year, the majority of the day-of event staffing is done by young adults. This year especially, organizers realized they were going need a large number of volunteers to help make it all happen. They reached out to the Young Adult Network, who responded by filling every volunteer spot available. Their roles included set-up, guest registration, and clean-up. In total, over 50 young adults gave their Friday night to make the evening a smooth and seamless success.
The work of the Young Adult Network did not go unnoticed by guests. Tim Cahill, YAN co-president and banquet volunteer coordinator said, “It was easy for guests to see the value and talent the young adults brought to the event. Joy, energy, and hope were words constantly used by the attendees to describe the volunteers’ presence and attitude.” Cahill continued, “We all had a major impact on the success of the evening”.
YAN will be putting the call out for volunteers again next September, but you don’t need to wait that long to get involved. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
