Position Summary:  The Director of Development is responsible for the management of the Development Department including the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our fundraising and public relations endeavors.

Time Commitment: Regular, exempt, full-time position

Supervision: Executive Director

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, manage and implement a comprehensive development program focused on securing donations from private individuals, foundations and corporations, grants, capital gifts, in-kind contributions, pro-bono services and planned gifts.
  • Manage all data related to development activities including tracking of donations, completion of donor acknowledgments, writing of development progress reports and goal assessments.
  • Supervise and work collaboratively with development staff members.
  • Manage the operations budget for the development program.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the preparation of strategic plan with short- and long-range goals to meet organizational funding objectives, and enlist support from members of organization’s staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors.
  • Develop, submit and secure grants for funds from private foundations and corporations.
  • Plan and manage fundraising, other donor cultivation and donor appreciation events, research and develop new donors, cultivate, and solicit existing donors. Identify potential contributors to special project funds and ongoing operations through examination of past records and knowledge of community.
  • Assist the Executive Director to plan and coordinate fund drives for special projects. Organize direct mail campaign to reach potential contributors. Plan and coordinate benefit events including but not limited to Abria’s Gala, our Life is Wonderful run/walk, and the Bishop’s Breakfast.
  • Oversee the production and distribution of newsletters, brochures annual reports, news releases and other materials needed for public relations activities.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to assign responsibilities for personal solicitation to members of staff, volunteer organizations, and the Board of Directors according to special interests or capabilities.
  • Create materials required to implement development activities and to enhance the organization’s visibility and image in the community.
  • Act as main fundraising liaison between board and staff to meet fundraising goals as developed jointly by the Development Director, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors.
  • Inform potential contributors of organization’s special needs, and encourage individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests, conferring with attorneys and collaborating with Abria staff to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and the organization.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner that is consistent with our mission, values, and vision.
  • Work effectively as a team member of Abria, maintaining a respectful, helpful, working relationship with all Abria staff, volunteers, board members and the Executive Director.
  • Network with community members, business representatives, other non-profit organizations, and representatives from other key organizations.
  • Stay current in understanding laws, regulations and procedures related to fundraising, and comply with all policies and procedures of Abria and all laws, rules, regulations, standards, and best practices appropriate to the position.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience and excellent command of relevant software applications

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems, Database software, Development software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and grant applications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, donors, clients, partners, and the general public. Skill communicating to large groups of people. Strong public speaking skills.

Training:

  • Elevate Life’s 16-hour training program
  • Orientation to Abria Pregnancy Resources and on-the-job training with the Executive Director and other Abria staff.

Location:

Abria St. Paul and Northside clinics and off-site meetings, appointments, and events as applicable.

Compensation:

  • Salaried, full-time workweek as an exempt employee
